Three Tips On What To Ask Your Venue About Your 2020 Wedding In Regards To Covid-19

You have spent the last year to year and a half planning your big day…and then COVID-19 strikes. You are frozen in fear, angry and really frustrated with what to do next, or even what to do first!  Below are three things to ask your currently booked venue to help you and your fiancé come…

You have spent the last year to year and a half planning your big day…and then COVID-19 strikes. You are frozen in fear, angry and really frustrated with what to do next, or even what to do first!  Below are three things to ask your currently booked venue to help you and your fiancé come up with a plan.

  1. Ask “what happens if my guest count falls below the minimum required guest count?”

Once venues are able to open their doors again, there may be restrictions on how many people can gather or how many of your guests are feeling comfortable traveling.

  • Reread your contract so you are educated on what terms you previously signed under.
  • Push your venue to work with you on a lowered guest count, so that you can still say “I do” in 2020.
  1. Ask “is my deposit good towards a new date if desired?”

It is important to know what will happen to your deposit if the date is going to be changed.

  • If the date is moved due to government shutdown- this requires a different level of understanding. Is your deposit good towards any other booked date AND fully refundable?
  • If the date is moved due to YOU choosing to do so- make sure to understand your deposit options if you choose to move your date. This is a great time to ask about pricing increases if you are wanting to change your wedding date to 2021.
  1. Ask “how far in advance do we need to make the decision to rebook or stay scheduled?”

This question is crucial in being able to make a plan.

  • Require a hard date by which you are required to make a decision about moving your date (without penalty) and then get it in writing.
  • Ask how far out the venue is going to make a call about rescheduling your wedding due to government shutdown. This information will help you plan how to alert your guests, vendors, etc.
  • Check with your vendors to make sure they are all still operating.

We know it has been a tough couple of months for everyone. We have all had to cancel plans, remain distanced from our loved ones, and learn how to manage work and school remotely. Where our calendars were once filled with parties, anniversaries, and events, they now seem to only read: TBD.

With each passing day, we are hopeful to be a step closer to better days – days that include a hug from those we love or a barbeque with close friends.  While we may not know exactly when that day will come, we do know that when the shelter-in-place lifts, things are going to look a bit different, and that includes gathering with family and friends.

You may be asking yourself: What DO group gatherings look like on the other side of COVID-19?  Well, we have mapped out exactly what a social distancing retreat at Pine Creek Escape can look like. Keep reading to learn how you can stay safe and socially distance without sacrificing all the fun and fresh air….

The recommendation to socially distance or limit the size of group gatherings may not be going away anytime soon, but with cabins that sleep 12 people, you will have plenty of room to spread out and keep a safe amount of space amongst an intimate number of people. The cabins also offer a full kitchen which eliminates the need to eat out, saving you money and skipping any additional contact with those outside of your core family and friends.

Worried about completing remote school and work? Well worry not, because we have got you covered there too! Our cabins offer strong wifi connection so you will be able to play hard AND work hard.  This perfect set up makes it possible to pack up your laptop and spend a week out at the cabin for a much-needed change of scenery while still completing all things work and school. We cannot think of a better way to break up a remote workday than to step outside your door to a scenic view and a leisurely sit around the fire. This getaway location makes it easy to play and explore the towering pines all day while still abiding by social distancing guidelines.

When it comes to booking, we encourage you to stick with your quarantine crew – family members or close friends that you have already been in contact with. Keeping your group size small and limited to those closest to you is the best way to ensure that your group stays safe and follows gathering recommendations. Before your group arrives, we will take all the necessary cleaning precautions to provide a safe environment for you to relax and unwind in. And since we have several cabin options, you can rest easy knowing that we can accommodate even larger families by utilizing more than one cabin during your stay.

As if the thought of breezy morning hikes, remote learning with a rustic view, and evening s’mores around the fire was not enough, your decision to gather at Pine Creek Escape is also an opportunity to provide support to a local business. Now, perhaps more than ever before, it is vital to support the small businesses that keep our local economy thriving. We have been a locally owned and ran business for over 30 years and we do not plan to stop anytime soon! When our community hurts, we feel it. By staying at a Pine Creek Escape cabin, you will not only be partaking in some much-needed R&R, but also helping a local business thrive during these challenging economic times.

Years from now, we will undoubtedly still remember the life changing days of COVID-19. But, with a little planning and a phone call to Pine Creek Escape, you can also look back on this time and remember the sweet gift of extra time spent with loved ones and the slow-down that you never knew you needed. Now is your chance to see the glass half-full and make the most of a difficult time – and we think half-full of your favorite beverage fireside sounds pretty great.

When it comes to wedding planning, there is a long list of decisions for a bride and groom to make. The first big decision will probably be when you plan to get married. Choosing a date for your big day will set the tone for decor, attire, etc…

Once you have decided on the season and date of your wedding, you will need to select where you will host your wedding.  Arguably as important as the season and date of your wedding is the ambiance of your location. The location of your wedding will be one of the first details that you reveal to your guests before your special day.  The wedding location makes a statement to guests about what to expect and most importantly – what to look forward to! If you are planning your dream wedding, we know ‘indoor vs outdoor’ is a question you are probably asking yourself. We have put together six reasons why an outdoor venue will take your wedding from memorable to unforgettable.

Natural Decor

Picture this: A dreamy sunset, luscious greens, and a soft breeze surround you while you exchange vows with the love of your life. Sounds picture-perfect, right?  Well, you can have it all without lifting a finger. An outdoor ceremony offers all the earth’s natural beauty without the stress of coordinating and purchasing decor. Whether you opt for warm fall colors, bright spring flowers, or the unmistakable sounds of summer as the backdrop for your outdoor wedding, one thing is for certain: it will be stunning.

Unique Photography

The only thing better than experiencing the beautiful scenery on your wedding day? Experiencing it every day after through the undoubtedly beautiful images that will be captured. An outdoor wedding will grant the photographer limitless shots filled with natural sunlight and effortless scenery. Unlike an indoor wedding, an outdoor venue provides ample space for a photographer or videographer to set up and move around to capture incredible images of your big day.

Unlimited Space

If you are looking to host a large wedding, you will likely run into issues with capacity limits at indoor venues, where guests may feel cramped in the tight seating. Outdoor locations, however, typically have the space for unlimited seating – giving guests a comfortable amount of space to relax and enjoy the magical day. Bonus: you can utilize the extra space to be as creative with the seating arrangement and ceremony set up as you would like! The aesthetic of an outdoor venue is also complementary to large bridal parties, giving them enough space to spread out.

Outdoor Vibes

When it comes to the feel of your wedding, perhaps you want intimate and romantic. Conversely, maybe you are shooting for the party of the year. With the right venue, you can have BOTH! No matter the feel that you want to deliver, an outdoor wedding gives you the right vibes to achieve it. The combination of fresh air and scenic views is sure to get your guests in the mood to grab a cocktail and dance the night away.

Let the Venue Tell a Story

Whether you met your spouse on a hike at a forest preserve or just enjoy weekly rounds of golf together – your wedding venue is an opportunity to tell your guests about your love story. For avid nature lovers, an outdoor ceremony is a perfect way to bring hobby and love together. If water recreation is your favorite pastime, consider a ceremony with unique water views. Whether you have a long history with the great outdoors or simply enjoy nature’s exquisite details, the simple beauty of nature is an eloquent way to illustrate your love to your guests.

When it comes to the most important event of your life, do not let the stress of creating the perfect space overshadow the joy of the journey. Let nature create the beauty – you just bring the love.

Now that we have got you thinking all things lush greenery, serene views, and kissing under the open sky, let us help you plan your perfect outdoor wedding at Pine Creek. Contact us to book a tour and view our towering limestone canyon wedding ceremony sites and cozy cabins – 815-881-1180.

Congratulations, you’re engaged! Now that you have the ring, it’s time to start planning your dream wedding. Wedding trends are ever-changing, but we’ve scoured our resources and found five up-and-coming trends for 2020 that are sure to be timeless for whatever date you choose!

  1. Fall in Love with Sustainability

Being eco-friendly is always a good decision – but this year, sustainability will also be a particularly hot topic for wedding planning as well. So, how do you create the perfect sustainable wedding?

  • Think Local! Shop the vendors in your area to find the perfect décor and local, fresh foods. It is a win-win to be eco-friendly while also saving money on shipping!
  • Outdoor Beauty. The best way to plan sustainably is to utilize the gorgeous scenery that we’ve already got! An outdoor ceremony and reception will provide you with all the organic, natural beauty needed to set the scene, which saves you from needing to decorate a space.
  1. A New Take on Cake

Gone are the days of the traditional white cake. Rising on trend for 2020 will be a sweet twist on providing desserts to your guests. Think less frosting, more variety. This new trend encourages you to customize your wedding to accommodate your sweet tooth instead of tradition. We’ve gathered a few tasty ideas to help you pick your craving!

  • Dreaming of Doughnuts. Whether you stack them in a tower or hang them on a custom doughnut wall, we know this sweet treat is sure to please your guests.
  • I-Scream-For-Ice-cream! Bringing in an ice cream cart to your reception is the perfect mixture of sweet and creative. This treat also allows your guests to customize their dessert with assorted toppings – just don’t get a brain freeze!
  • A Treat for All. And if you still can’t decide – do it all! An assorted dessert bar gives you the best of it all and allows you to add something traditional to your reception by including some family favorites.
  1. Show Gratitude by Giving Back

Before you purchase 250 personalized koozies, mints, or coasters, consider hopping on board with an up-and-coming 2020 trend: the gift that gives back. Provide your guests with a purposeful “thank you for coming” gift that they’ll never lose in the junk drawer.

  • Plant a Seed of Thanks. Pre-potted party favors cover all the wedding trend bases: eco-friendly, creative, and budget-conscious. Consider visiting your local nursery for seasonal plants and small pots that you can purchase in bulk and VOILA! This gift idea says thank you to your guests and the earth.
  • Mark Your Big Day with Donation. Another way to show your appreciation to your guests is to donate to a worthy cause in their honor. What better way to keep the wedding day warm-and-fuzzies going than to give back to a cause near and dear to your heart?
  1. Color Me Married

Neutral color pallets will be taking a back seat to more colorful schemes this year. Regardless of the season, don’t be afraid to add your favorite pops of vibrant colors. Not sure where to sprinkle in your signature colors? We’ll help.

  • Colorful Kicks. Adding bright shoes to yourself and your bridal party is a fun way to step up the color at your wedding. Don’t be afraid to include funky socks, too! The pop of color underneath bridesmaid dresses or groomsmen slacks will create a fun and colorful visual whether they are walking down the aisle or grooving on the dance floor.
  • Signature Sips. Staying on trend in to the New Year will be incorporating a signature drink option. Whether you offer it to guests to enjoy during the ceremony or reveal it at the reception, spicing this drink up with colorful syrups or seasonings is a tasteful (and tasty!) way to bring in color.
  1. Unique Accommodations

Whether your guests are local or abroad, offering unique accommodations is sure to make your wedding the event of the season. Scratch standard hotels from your list and research one-of-a-kind lodging near your venue instead.

  • Cozy Cabin. Providing a cabin accommodation option for your guests is the perfect way to include an earthy element to your wedding vibe. This 2020 trend gives wedding-goers a customized experience from beginning to end. Plus, who wouldn’t want a delicious s’more around a fire after a night of celebrating?
  • Hidden Gem. Wherever you get married, spend some time researching local over-night options unique to the area. While they may have limited rooms, a bed and breakfast or cottage inn will give your guests a more personal experience than a chain hotel option.

And there you have it – five trends that are sure to be on the rise this New Year! There are, of course, many additional trends that will be specific to your season, venue and style. But, whether you choose trends of the past, present, or future for your big day, remember that the most essential and timeless trend of all is Love. And, we are pretty sure you’ve already got that covered.
